Bhakti Shastri Chapter 5 - Karma Yoga - Action in KC V1-12

3rd chapter = Karma Yoga - Krsna is primarly explaining person on the level of knowledge has no other work to perform. Here he explains we should be doing action only for Krsna. Karma yoga is work connected only for Krsna. Bhakti yoga is easier than sankhya yoga. Sankhya yoga is very difficult.

When you work in KC you can get purified. In the end He glorified knowledge and renunciation. In the end He asked Arjuna to fight. Arjuna thought renunciation means to avoid all work and hence He thought OK - I shouldn't fight. Acting in KC was actually working with akarma - which is like inaction. Action in inaction

Nishkaam karma yoga - No desire for the fruit of your activities.
V1- SP discusses the chapters. Chapter 3, 4 etc. Arjuna got confused!  In the Third Chapter, it was explained that a person who is situated on the platform of knowledge no longer has any duties to perform. And in the Fourth Chapter the Lord told Arjuna that all kinds of sacrificial work culminate in knowledge. However, at the end of the Fourth Chapter, the Lord advised Arjuna to wake up and fight, being situated in perfect knowledge. Therefore, by simultaneously stressing the importance of both work in devotion and inaction in knowledge, Kṛṣṇa has perplexed Arjuna and confused his determination. It was Krsna's plan so we could discuss further about the Transcendental knowledge. We should work in renunciation - don't be attached to the results of the work, do it all for pleasure of Krsna. One in knowledge should always work.

V2- Renunciation of work and working in devotion is good for liberation, but work in devotion (Karma Yoga) is better than someone taking sanyasa. Whenever we want something for us then there is karma. Whenever we do something for Krsna then there is no bondage. One is considered to be a failure in life as long as he makes no inquiry about his real identity. One must develop a love for devotional service to Vāsudeva. Only then can one have the opportunity to get out of the bondage of material existence. Soul is always active, the nature of the soul is to serve hence it's always active. Action in KC is truly different as it is different from the fruitive platform. It strengthens our real understandin of what Krsna's real desire is to please Krsna. If we do the activities for Krsna then we get purified. Our desire to enjoy material things gets destroyed hence this is much better than just mere renunciateion of our activities. Rupa Gosvami says - NOD- Not phalgu vairagya but yukt variragya - everything belongs to Krsna -  Renunciation is complete when it is in the knowledge that everything in existence belongs to the Lord and that no one should claim proprietorship over anything. One should understand that, factually, nothing belongs to anyone. Then where is the question of renunciation? One who knows that everything is Kṛṣṇa’s property is always situated in renunciation. Working in renunciation strengthens one's knowledge.

V3 - When working in devotion then we are truly renounced. That is the meaning of sanyasi. We are using everything for the service of Krsna. He feels neither hatred nor desire for the results of his actions.Only cares about the pleasure of Krsna.

V4-5 - Both Karma yoga and sanyasa are the same. Both of them have the same conclusion. SP text 4 purport - The goal is to find the soul of existence = Visnu. Because both of them the goal is renunciation and connecting everything for Krsna's pleasure. ex - drop the rock to pick up the axe. Same way to take spiritual condition one has to drop the material conditions first. But karma yoga allows us to do both at the same time when we work for the pleasure of Krsna, automatically we aren't working for our sense pleasures. Karma yoga is the better way to achieve the goal. When we do Nishkam karma yoga - work in knowledge that we are eternal servants and are only to please Krsna in the faith that this process will cleanse our heart - automatically we are in renunciation. How do we get purified - when we renounce the fruits of our activities. Otherwise we are forced to enjoy the fruits of the activities.

V6-  Just by mere renouncing and not engaging in devotional service can't make us happy. V nice purport. Draw a table/chart and there are 12 differences between Vaisnava sanyasis vs mayavadi sanyasis so far from V1-6.

v7- Describes the consciousness of a person who works in karma yoga or in devotional service. Now Arjuna understands that he is only following the instructions of Krsna and not doing the activities.

V8/9 - Spirit soul is always aloof from the material modes of nature. We are not the bodies and only the senses are actually in contact with the material modes. Even if the bodies are engaged in various activities - eating, sleeping, etc - still the soul is not interested in all these kinds of activities. The soul wants to use the body so they can serve Krsna. The soul himself isn't eating. So please allow only activities which are really required by the body - sex not required. Eating is required to get energy, sleeping, I'm doing all this to only serve Krsna. KC person is never. seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, eating, moving about, sleeping and breathing.  he appears to be acting with his body and senses, he is always conscious of his actual position, which is spiritual engagement. In material consciousness, the senses are engaged in sense gratification, but in Kṛṣṇa consciousness the senses are engaged in the satisfaction of Kṛṣṇa’s senses. Therefore, the Kṛṣṇa conscious person is always free, even though he appears to be engaged in affairs of the senses. He is doing everything like I need to sleep so I can wake up early to chant and serve Krsna. I need to accept prasadam so I can get energy to serve Krsna. When we are doing everything for Krsna then we aren't getting any karma.

V10 - When in knowledge, then our duty can be done with detachment. He will see his body acting. Soul is aloof from the material body. I'm using this body to serve Krsna. I have to do it for the Lord. The work he does hence remains free from karma or sins. Such a person is like a lotus leaf. Even if you throws water on teh leaf, water just glides away from it. The water doesn't stick.

V11 - Yogis work only for the purification of their atma. To get intelligence so we can be purify the mind. We should look at our GM how they do this. Please read purport. Jivan mukta - A person acting in Kṛṣṇa consciousness (or, in other words, in the service of Kṛṣṇa) with his body, mind, intelligence and words is a liberated person even within the material world, although he may be engaged in many so-called material activities

V12 - A person in KC, is always attached to Krsna and a material person is attached to the results of our activities (even if we are initiated we should be very careful about this). We should always try to think how is my current job or work I'm doing pleasing Krsna. Everything I do, I should be able to please Krsna. Pure services, without attachment. When I cook for the Lord - it's on a transcendental level if we are always thinking hope Krsna likes this preparation, hope he accepts this preparation. Just like when we are trying to cook for our SM - we are always thinking hope he likes it, hope he takes more of it. Then you are on a transcendental level.  V12 IS THE summary of v7-11.

V13 Onwards who is doing it - Krsna or Paramatma etc.

Bhakti Shastri Chapter 2 v40 - 54

Lecture link - please listen to the class for complete instructions - http://recording.freeconferencecalling.com/mp3/1212152/707497/IA1205_11252014170256970_1178733.mp3

39-53 Krsna says we need to perform dev service and perform duty.

V40: Nothing is lost or dimunished. Example given is Ajamila - earlier he was a very nice brahmachari in KC but was affected by sense gratification. But at the end of his life he was able to chant the name of Krsna - hence there was nothing lost! It is consistent in the vedic scriptures that if you have faith and serve the Lord, then there is no loss. Taking up KC, there is sureity of human birth and guaranteed to get a human life. Please MEMORIZE this verse and this helps to preach to people whey it is important to get into KC as there is no loss.

V41: MEMORIZE this also - This verse affected SP a lot and is very important to ISKCON devotees. Those who are on this path are resolute on this path. Reading this verse he was thinking about how he's going to spread KC all over. SP got affected by reading Visvanath Chakravarti's purport - where he says that both at the beginning stage and also in the perfectional stage all we need to do is follow our Spiritual Master's instruction and follow it.Don't accept anything else even in dreams. Just have faith in Krsna then you will understand that you have no obligations in the material world. Otherwise you have all kinds of obligations. If you are fully KC then you don't need to endeavor for fruitive activities. So how do we know this - we are not the body but are the soul and there is a goal for the soul. The only way is by serving the spiritual master.

V42-43: As people aren't very intelligent, they aren't able to follow the actual meaning of the vedas. They just take the sense enjoyment part of the vedas and hence aren't very intelligent. About 95% of the vedas only talk about Karma kanda aspect - how to lead a good life, how to enjoy life all according to scriptural injunctions. These are all knowledge but not knowledge to get out of life and death. Here Arjuna was attached to the sense gratification - as this was all temporary. They feel that after reading vedas they want to go to the heavenly planets and can enjoy so much sense enjoyment that's the goal they understand. But the real happiness is to transcend even all these heavenly sense enjoyments and go to Goloka Vrindavan. Hence such people are said to be ignorant.

V44: Memorize these verses. Immeditately we are able to understand why we aren't tasting the HOLY Name because we are so attached to the material world - bhogaaisvarya - we need to first allow Krsna to enjoy it as we are always in the service mood. It's not that Krsna needs it, he's self satisfied. His internal potency which gives pleasure is already within him but we need it - so we need to serve Krsna. Hence we aren't able to make progress as we are so attached to sense enjoyments - even subtle enjoyments - I'd like to see my son do this or do that - I want them to become the governor a banker, have attachemnts and hence we get bewildered. As we want to enjoy these kinds of things we aren't able to focus on the Holy name. This is the reason of our slowness in KC is because of our attachement to such sense enjoyment. To get something we need to give us something Tapa - It is all about determination. Austerity for the supreme Lord, for the Lord's pleasure. Even when doing CHAD, reading SB doing your daily activities - think it's because Krsna is so happy to hear his own glories that we are doing it to please Krsna.

V45: If you don't arise above the 3 modes of material nature, the fruitive activities then we will never be able to understand Krsna. He wants us to rise above the Karma kandas. When we dovetail to Krsna then we automatically rise above the material anxieties and we become dependent on the Lord and for his mercy and then we make amazing progress. Automatically Krsna takes care. Tolerate, the dualities of the material life. One has to learn to tolerate - happiness and distress, cold and hot etc. Sometimes we get sometimes we don't get - we need to tolerate either way and try to rise above this material world.

V46: VERY Important verse MEMORIZE. So just by chanting the Holy Name is much better than all kinds of activities. Even devotees are so many different kinds, but just by chanting the Holy name all of us are making progress. Even Mahaprabhu showed to Prakashananta saraswati the importance of chanting coming directly from his Spiritual master. Similarly SP, is showing us from the puroport that there isn't any need to read the vedas etc, just need to do devotional service and also chant the holy name.

V47: Famous verse - We need to understand that we aren't the cause of these results but just the instrument of doing this work. Purport is very important - 3 types of works -  please listen to the recording and read Burijana pr. explanation

V48- 50: Listen to the recording please as I didn't hear properly. Date of recording 11/25/14

V 51: A man performing dev service can get rid of the reactions even in this life!!!! So just by performing devotional service one can transcend this material world and all these miseries and enter into Goloka Vrindavan. Example even if you do all kinds of pious activities if you are in karma kanda you can still fall down example - king giving cows to the brahmanas was cursed as a lizard. So we need to know our constitutional position as an eternal soul and then we can serve him nicely. We shouldn't think that we are the same as the Supreme Lord, otherwise we also have to take birth and death over and over again. Once we realize that we are not the body then we become eligible to go back to Godhead.

V52-54 please listen to the lecture.

Bhakti Shastri Chapter 1 Verses 38 - 46 by HG Radha Krsna Prabhu

Doesn't want to incur sins:
Verse 37-38: He's trying to act as a saintly person and what he's forgetting is he needs to upload the principles of a Kshatriya.
He doesn't want to destroy the family tradition. He thinks that everyone on each side are so powerful that all will die and he doesn't want to incur that sin. If all the Kshatriya die who everyone depends on then what will happen to everyone and then the common men will become frivolous and impure and irreligion will spread.

4th Argument 39-43: Tradition will be destroyed and irreligion will spread.
Verse 39: If older people are killed then as there are no guides in the varnasrama dharma and hence the younger will develop irreligious habits and lose their chance of spiritual salvation.

V40: If traditions are lost, then women of the family become polluted and from them degradation happens. The women have a very imp role to guide the children. Men go out to work and women help the kids understand the values so they can then go ahead and face the society. The softness of the women help them imbibe these values for the children. If there is nobody to take care of the women, because they always are looking for protection and there is nobody to protect them then not nice men try to enjoy them for their own sense gratification. But in Kali-Yuga both men and women are pretty foolish except the devotees have the intelligence to always follow in KC. The result is then unwanted children. The protection of the women is very important and we should consider in the +ve aspect in protecting them. We should not focus on the less intelligent part as this was written in a different yuga and in this yuga all of us are less intelligent. By expoilting women the entire society degrades. How to protect them - by engaging them in religious principles in the guidance of father, husband and son, otherwise there is always varna sankara = unwanted progeny. Varsneya = o descendent of Vrisni Krsna comes in the line of Vrishni dynasty, so how would you feel if your own Vrishni dynasty is about to be killed.  -  1. Women become free to act and mix with men, and thus adultery is indulged in at the risk of unwanted population, hellish life  2.Risk of war. 3. Life is very bad for the unwanted children and the mother. Also Shradha ceremony - pinda dana cannot take place - ancestors waiting to get liberation. Pinda dana helps these personalities some what. The best thing to do is to offer them prasada and as soon as you offer them prasadam, their miserable life can be reduced somewhat. But, for devotees always engaged in dev service, such obligations are automatically fulfilled by performance of devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead and these obligations are not necessary. Just offer everything to Krsna and then to Narayan and then forefathers best for us to offer.

V 41, 42, 43: Now Krsna is giving another reason that he has heard through different Gurus that if someone destroys some good tradition, that such people will go to hell. He is saying he is not making it up but has heard from valid sources that such people go to hell and hence he doesn't want to fight and how will such people try to atone for their sinful reactions then one will have to go to the hellish planets. Such is the destruction of the family tradition.

Saintly pepole - softness of heart, wants to forgive his aggressors, moral values should be protected - doesn't want irreligion to spread,

V 44- 46: Arjuna doesn't want to fight anymore and the 5th reaosn is given in the 2nd chapter. He would rather die than fight and kill the sons of the Dhirtarastra. While Dhirtarastra is hearing all this he is feeling very happy that Arjuna the chief of the maharathis didn't want to be fight. Both Dronacharya and Bhisma had to be killed the way they were killed with trickery was because they became party to the wrong things even though it was right under them and they didn't say anything or stop it. Arjuna never puts his bow down and he had actually taken a pledge that anyone who asks him to put his bow, he would kill them. Example - Yudhistara insulted Arjuna when Arjuna came to see him after Karna had injured him and he said you are a coward and you don't want to fight Karna so put down your bow even though Arjuna had come just to see Yudhistara's wound. So Arjuna had drawn his sword to kill Yudhistira but as Krsna was there he said instead of killing a Ksatriya better to insult them as it is worse than killing them. So it was a big thing for Arjuna to keep the Gandiva bow as he was ready to even kill his own brother. So in this verse to show that he put his bow down it was a big thing to show his soft heartedness and compassion for everyone.

Dhirtarastra was blind and he had blind love for his sons. Even though Krsna was right there with all of them yet he was blinded by his love for his sons. We are worse than Dhirtarastra as we have so much more need for sense gratification.

Bhakti Shastri Chapter 1 Verses 28 - 37

From verse 28, he says he doesn't want to fight. He gives 5 arguments. First 4 are in chapter 1 and last one is in chapter 2.

Reasons not to fight:
1. Compassion - V 28- 30
2. Loss of enjoyment. V 31- 35
3. Doesn't want to incur sinful reactions - V36-38
4. If he kills all the men, women won't be able to continue family traditions.
Chapter 2
5. He becomes indecisive after seeing all this.

In this chapter this is pretty much he talks till V 46.

Compassion:
Verse 28: These are the symptoms of compassion which Arjuna is feeling - quivering and mouth drying up.
Verse 29: More signs of compassion- body is trembling, hair on end and bow is slipping and skin burning. He has material fear - loss of life. He is also unable to hold on to his famous bow Gandiva.
Verse 30: He is on the chariot and he's saying I can't do this anymore. It has overwhelmed him. When we are in fear, we get overwhelmed and we forget whatever we know. In a bewildering condition - excessive distress and anxiety. When you are trying to run towards something material, you don't get it and then you become distressed and then we become despondent. Nimmittani Viparitani : Causes and just the opposite. He is seeing everything differnent. He was used to seeing a good life everybody as his family and happy and when he is seeing all this opposite, he is distressed and his mind is reeling. We find the causes of compassion of Arjuna who is a pure devotee. He is a pure devotee and the reason he's showing this sign is because compassion is in the pure devotee. But he is now covered by Krsna's Yogamaya. How do we develop compassion - but pleasing the devotees esp your spiritual master by trying to please him. Only when you are able to please him do you develop compassion. That's what we should try to develop this quality. He is truly compassionate, because he is actually thinking of both parties. He is not thinking of himself at all. He is soft hearted. These are all his material signs of Arjuna - He is being seen as a weakness of the mind. He also shows attachement to his family members and that would be a false compassion.

Loss of enjoyment:
Verse 31 - If you kill your friends/family - whom will be enjoy with later. If you have companion then it's more enjoyable. Example - if you want to celebrate janamastami and you are doing it alone how can you enjoy? We don't know why sometimes we are happy in this material life. Some situations are happy and some situations are unhappy. Nice description of roles of a Ksatriya. Please read the purport of this verse. If he kills his enemies he feels he won't be able to enjoy in his kingdom. Sometimes in material life, we want the position and post but don't want the responsibilities of that post. If you don't do your material activities properly, then you can't even do your spiritual duties properly. If you do your material activities properly then you are able to even focus on your spiritual duties.
Verse 32-35: When people are put into situations when they don't want to do something, they give different reasons and here also Arjuna is giving a reason. Here he calls him Govinda - because Govinda is the focus of all pleasures for cows and senses and indirectly he'll tell Krsna that you should satisfy him. That's how we are also. We should also please the senses of Krsna or other people. In case someone comes home and we serve the guests well, they will have a good impression of that person. We should always pray to satisfy Krsna's sensese. Hence, we should always sing the songs of the Vaisnavas acaryas - then we understand the mood in which we should pray to Krsna. Janardhana means the support of the people or the living entities. How somebody who supports people can see people getting killed. The other aspect of play of words is Jana Ardhana - killer, ardhana means killer and he's saying as you are the killer, maybe you should kill them so I don't incur any sins.

Don't want to incur sins
Verse 36- Here he's saying fighting will incur sinful reactions. He is his relatives and his elders and hence not proper to kill them. Killing our kinsmen - dharma shastra and artha shastra. Artha shastra says there are 6 types of aggressors. He calls Krsna Madhava - and Krsna is all fortunate.
Verse 37-38: He's trying to act as a saintly person and what he's forgetting is he needs to upload the principles of a Kstariya.

Bhakti Shastri Course by HG Radha Krshna Prabhuji - Class 3 (06/28/2014)

Chapter 1: Observing the Armies
Summary:
1. Preparation of war
2. The signs of victory for the Pandavas
3. Whose side is Krsna on.

Verse 1-27: what is happening in the battlefield
Text 1: Dhrtarastra wasn't on the battlefield and hence asked Sanjaya what are everybody doing at Kurukshetra. Actually even Dhrtarastra had the vision from Vyasadev and was given the divine eyes but Dhrtarastra didn't want to see his sons to be killed and hence asked somebody to tell him the war. So Sanjaya was given the benediction from Vyasadeva to give live streaming of the Kurukshetra war.
Purport: To study the BG you need help of a devotee to help understand it very nicely. How should we study - very scrutinizly. Should be a daily schedule, read carefully - what Krsna, his devotees and SP wants us to do. We shouldn't be personally motivated - we shouldn't be finding a verse to satisfy our needs. We need to hear only by disciplic succession because only then we will know what Krsna wants us to understand in the right way - otherwise we will not understand it properly when we hear from person to person and not by the disciplic succession.  Whatever we want to know is in the vedas - just like how Arjuna understood it. It is considered the 7th veda. The essence of the vedas is in the BG. Dhrtarastra is concerned about two things - 1. he didn't say my nephews - he said sons of pandu - because otherwise he will have affection
2. Place of pilgrimage - Kuruksetra/Dharmashetra - its a sacred place of pilgrimage since time immemorial. He knows Pandavas are righteous or virtuous and anybody who goes to the place of pilgrimage it influences them - Kauravas might say we don't want to fight take the land or Pandavas say - we don't anything we don't want to fight.
SP says paddy field unnecessary weeds are taken out. In Kurukshetra - in front of Krsna - unwanted plants like Kauravas will be wiped out - that's the analogy SP gives in the last paragraph of the first verse.

Text 2: Theme now is what is Duryodhana is doing. We see how he is so diplomatic and he is fearful (till verse 11)
Purport: He is blind and is also bereft of spiritual vision and he knew his sons are also blind in religion. Even though he is addressed as King Duryodhana - so instead of going to the ministers he is diplomatic and he goes to his teacher Dronacharya and because he is a brahmana he committed the following mistake.

Text 3: Here he is being very diplomatic and is pointing out to his teacher the mistake he has made. Drupada made a fire sacrifice and prayed to have a son who will kill Dronacharya they came from the fire sacrifice and the other personality was Draupadi. Dhristadyumna still sent to Dronacharya to learn the art of war. Here Duryodhana is pointing out to his teacher see what your mistake has been made. Don't be lenient to the pandavas and your students because this is what you are meant to do and if you don't fight properly we will be defeated.

Text 4: He is trying to allay the fear that these two personalities Bhima and Arjuna are the two stumbling blocks and is very afraid of both of them but still he is trying to convince others that we have great fighters so everybody can feel not afraid. Again his diplomacy. 3 vows after Draupadi was disrobed  - 1. will kill all 101 sons of Dhirtarastra, 2. Duryodhana had pulled out his dhoti and had asked Draupadi to sit on his lap - hence he had vowed he will break his thigh 3. He said he will tear Dushasana chest and take out his heart and drink his blood and will also break his hand. Draupadi also said she will not tie her hair till she gets the blood of Dushasana on it.

Text 5: He is stating other fighters too.
Text 6:  other fighters - till now he has said about the other army

Text 7: Now about his army to both Drona and Bhisma
Text 8: Starts with Drona instead of Bhisma - because he again wanted to be diplomatic and he knew Bhisma won't mind if he mentioned a brahmana then he mentioned Bhisma to please him. He also mentioned Krpa and Ashwattama who were relatives of Dronachary. Then he mentioned Vikarna who was the only brother to defend the draupadi vastraharan and hence, he was trying to please everybody so nobody defects to the other side. Just before the war starts Vikarna actually goes to the Pandavas side.

Text 9: others who are ready to fight for Duryodhana - SP says they are already concluded that they will die.
Text 10: He knew Bhima is very powerful and he had envy towards him. He is comparing his greatest enemy to Bhisma and he is trying to compare Bhima with Bhisma so he is trying to say he is limited like a fig compared to Bhisma. But Bhisma's will to fight is so less compared to Bhima and hence Bhima might be superior. So Duryodhana in essence is very afraid and is trying to be diplomatic and is trying to please everyone.

Some key points - 1. Duryodhana still feels he is confident of victory 2. He knows nobody can defeat the son of Ganga Bhisma and he has the boon of not dying till he wants to die 3. Till he has Bhismadev he can win the war (He and Drona knew Krsna is the supreme Lord and yet were fighting on dharma as he had vowed to protect the kingdom - Once Kstariya gives his word still they keep up their word, Drona had given up knowledge for money and hence he was obligated to the Kauravas. These are all great personalities and they are just showing with their examples what we shouldn't do) 4. Duryodhana knew both Drona and Bhisma had lot of affection but he also knew both of them didn't do anything when Draupadi was disrobed and hence we see Duryodhana is very arrogant so far.

Text 11: Again diplomatic that even though Bhisma is very strong, yet he is an old man and hence everybody should give him protection

Text 12:  Bhisma knowing Duryodhana was afraid and his heart - feeling compassion he blew his conchshell very loudly to cheer him. Also the conchshell is a sign of Krsna and he tried to tell Duryodhana that his defeat is immenient.

Text 13: From now we will see subtle signs of how the Kauravas are going to die.
Very loud everybody started blowing and beating drums - At that period there were ethics also in war.

Text 14:  Both Krsna and Arjuna's conchshells are transcendental. Here we see so many signs of wins for the Pandavas. Signs of  victory 1. Krsna on their side 2. Whereever Krsna is Goddess of fortune is also there so Victory and fortune is always with the persons who are with Krsna 3. Arjuna's flag was Hanumanji - another symbol of victory 4. Conchshells - signs of visnu 5. Both Krsna and Arjuna's Conchshells are transcendental - hence there was different reaction when they blew theirs.
Special chariot - donated by agni deva - it can change its direction based on where Arjuna wants to shoot also Arjuna could fight from both right and left hands - he had that boon. Chariot could move in any direction and in any part of the universe.

Text 15:  All these were Transcendental conchshells - All of them have personalities themselves. They can all take form and can come down if they need to. As these are all transcendental hence they are all named. They are used to purify the ether with ghosts spirits and dirty elements and hence we blow the conchshell. Krsna's conchshell - Pancajanya; Arjuna's - Devadatta and Bhima's - Paundra. Yudhisthira - Anantavijaya; Nakula - Sughosa and Sahadeva- Manipuspaka
Lot of important points in the Purport - PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY

HW: Find Different names of Krsna, arjuna and Bhima (3 or 4 names of Krsna and Arjuna also has 3/4 different names)
Hearing these Conchshells the hearts of the Kauravas were shattered.

Text 16: All such great personalities going to war but all started by King Dhrtarastra.
Text 19: SP says in purport - one who takes shelter of the Supreme Lord then we have nothing to fear in the midst of the greatest calamity - the verse is an example how the Pandavas felt no fear as Krsna was with them.  So in our day to day life too - everyday is a battle we should be fearful of the material world and should take shelter of the supreme Lord Krsna everyday every moment.

Text 20: Arjuna was prepared to fight but Krsna puts Arjuna in a situation so he can talk to the Lord and Krsna can then speak the BG.

Text 21: Krsna wanted Arjuna to see his own relatives so he can be bewildered and then he can speak the BG. Here Arjuna refers Krsna as Acyuta - why? The Lord never fails his devotee because of his affection to His devotees. Because Krsna takes pleasure to serve his devotees and whatever position he takes he becomes the best - best servant, best lover, best charioter, that should be our mood - be the best in whatever you do. The servant wants to serve the Lord and Krsna also wants to serve and reciprocate with the devotee and that is called rasa - Krsna is experiencing each rasa by taking the position with each of his devotees. This is a very unique quality of the supreme Lord. He puts Arjuna in yogamaya because he wants to teach all of us something  - he wanted to clean up the unwanted elements and hence he had the war but at the same time he wanted to give everybody some teaching and hence wants to speak the BG.

Text 23: He wanted to see others

Text 24: He is called Gudakesena - sleep or waking he never forgets Krsna. Hence Arjuna had conquered sleep as even in sleep he is thinking of Krsna and that is complete KC - and that is samadhi - that is the level we want to come to. But to get there we need to practise what SP has laid out and then we can always think of Krsna in sleep or waking always of Krsna. That is pure KC. Hence, we should always practice nicely the Lord will help us to go back to him and always give your senses all Krsna related things - ALL SENSES!

Text 25/26: Here is saw everybody connected one way or another - all this by Krsna to change his heart by Yogamaya.

Text 27: This is the quality of devotees - when he saw all these people - he was overwhelmed with compassion.

28-46: Arjuna is giving his reasons on not fighting
Reasons are 5:
4 reasons are given in 1st chapter and the other reason is in the 2nd chapter.

Text 28: Now he starts the reasons of not fighting.
1. Limbs are quivering and mouth is drying up - because he knows he is going to be killing all these people. Characteristics of a pure devotee. He was astonished that even though he's going to kill all of them yet they are all there to fight him. He was a soft hearted and compassionate devotee.  He was thinking is the kingdom worth it by killing so many devotees.

Text 29:  2. Body is trembling, hair standing on end and bow Gandiva is slipping - skin is burning. - By Krsna's yogamaya Arjuna started behaving like an ordinary man. He starts fearing so much - I will lose my job, I will lose my home, I will lose my family - but if you approach Krsna and take shelter under him - automatically we will become fearless and wont fear the material world - that should be our mood - just surrender to the will of Krsna and serve him in any situation and then Krsna seeing this mood will be very happy with your patience and determination.
