Pasttimes of Lord Chaitanya Prabhu

chapt 8.15 - after attaining me the great souls, never return to the material world which is full of miseries and attain the highest perfection.


Once one attains Krishna, they don't have to come back to this world. Why? Because one doesn't want to desire a life which is away from Krishna. The devotee is saying - I don't desire any wealth, any followers, any opp sex, no higher learning. All I want birth after birth my Lord, please give me your devotional service.


Krishna and Balarama, came as Nitai and Gauranga and told us about devotional service and who is a devotee of Krishna and how one practises devotional service to get the topmost service of Krishna conciousness. Hence the Lord came down as a devotee. Coming in the roop of a bhakta. Because the Lord himself comes as the devotee


Pastime
Turmeric on Radha's devi's hand by mother yasoda, she cleaned her hand in the pond, Krishna dived and showed his yellow complexion - Peeli.


He was so knowledgeable - that he defeated the scholar who said 100 verses on Ganga and also found out the errors in it.

Went to Navdweep and Nimai pandit got Krishna prema and he ran to Advait, Gadhadhar, Srivasadi and started performing sankirtana. Coming together and glorifying Krishna. Only through Sankirtana, all our conciousness is fully absorbed in Krishna Conciousness. In Kaliyuga, Sankirtana is recommended. 


One day the Kazi, (working under the judge) and he passed the rule that none of the Hindus should chant the Hare Krishna mantra. He came home and broke the mridanga. Devotees were very fearful now, and they asked what shall we do? Till now the Lord was only doing sankirtan inside house, but on this day the devotees approached the Lord and told him that we are all scared and we don't know what to do. 


At that time he said, go out fearlessly and chant the Harinam and I will kill everybody who comes in that way. He said, tonight we shall perform sankirtana in every village and every street. So all of them were very happy and came out with torches, kartals, mridangas and prepared for this wonderful sankirtana.


Fearlessly they were calling out the wonderful names of the Lord and as they were going from town to town the lord wanted to go to the house of Chand Kazi. He didn't expect that something like this would happen. This was the first civil disobedience movement in the world to outlaw the rule that was given by Chand Kazi.


Chand Kazi seeing so many millions of people, he was scared and went into hiding. He came down and the Lord asked why are you hiding and not giving a good reception. He said Nimai, your grandfather Neelambar Chakrobarty, he happens to be from the same village as me and I used to call him mama. Hence, I'm your uncle and you are my nephew. Hence like close relatives we should sort this out. 


Nimai said ok, let me ask you a question. He said you guys have a problem with understanding this religion. Why do you kill the cow to eat meat when it gives milk. Kazi said, that in quran there are two paths are given. One of pragratimarga() and nivrtimarga (decreasing attachement) and even in your scriptures is allowed. The Lord said not in kali yuga that's not allowed and they used to kill only old animals. And they used to kill the animals to give them a new body. Hearing this Kazi accepted his defeat. 


Then the Lord asked why did you stop us from preaching and now you are allowing us. Why? He replied - the night I broke the mridanga, that night a half man, half lion came in my dream and put me on his chest and I will dig my nails kill you as you aren't allowing the hari nam sankirtana. And you better correct yourself, or I will kill you and your family. Hence, I was very afraid and here are the marks of the nails on my heart.


All his subordinates also said that it was hard for us to stop the chanting and everybody came back to tell me. That's when I knew you Nimai are a great person and you are Narayan. Please forgive me and accept me your devotee. Lord said, you saying the holy name has purified yourself by saying Hari, Krishna and Narayan. Then he touched the lotus feet. He said, only by you my sins have dried up and I want your blessings. bUT the Lord asked only if you allow Sankirtana. Then all of them joined the sankirtana. 


Even in Mayapur today there are two trees at Chand Kazi samadhi - neem tree and champak tree which are both embracing each other signifying each of them. This is the wonderful pastime how the Lord brought the sankirtan to the streets and wanted everybody to chant the holy name of the Lord.


More pastimes


Sri Chaitanya's tour to South India. He took sanyas. Nimai Pandit after going to gaya was transformed. Before that he was being arrogant because of his scholarly perspective. Isvara puri told him to chant the holy names of Krishna in Gaya. Then he was transformed into a devotee. How important it is to seek the guidance of a spiritual master. Only then he did his pasttimes in Nabadwip. 


One day when he was talking to one of his students. He was actually criticizing Krishna and was chanting the names of the gopis and was glorifying them. He said, he's a cheater because he left the gopis and abandoned them. So the students were enraged, they didn't have any respect for him. Then, he took sanyas, because then everybody was to take obeisances and all will be delivered and will get his mercy.


Kirtan in the house of Srivas. His son has left the body, then he heard the women cry. He went up and told them that the kirtan must not stop and  if it does, then I will put a stone and will drown myself. After 6-7 hours when the Lord came into conciousness then he asked what happened - someone said Srivas son is dead. He said doesn't matter when you are in the house as the person who has left in the presence of the Lord is blessed. Hence, association of devotees is very important.- srivasadi thakur's son died, but still he didn't disrupt the kirtan. Then, he requested the child to come back and he did. 



South india tour - Anybody who would see the lord will be delivered. In kurma shetra, he met a kurma bhrahman. He went into his house and when it was time to leave he couldn't be alone, so we went with the Lord. The devotee not allow him to leave. Lord said don't leave the house,don't be crying and hence he said we should chant the name of the Lord to remember him. Whomever you speak, give them the glories of Sri Krishna. Chant and give others then you will always feel my presence. Such is the nature of the hearts of the devotees. 


Beware of bhakti is very important everyday - his servant who was travelling with him, Kalia Krishnadas. was taken away by the bhaktas and hence it's important to keep chanting. If we aren't alert to our service to Krishna and our guru, there is every chance to being deviated even if you are with the supreme personality of the lord. Hence, very important to be alert in our spiritual lives. Can't say you can do bhakti tomorrow and let's relax today.


Wanted to go to Vrindavan - spy of muslim governor, test of chanting - He then got the desire to serve Krishna bhagwan and chant the holy name.


Take bath in Ganga and which taking bath Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared and said chant my name to get liberation.


Beg for the mercy of the Lord - pray, ask for shelter
Hearing guna, roopa, lila of the Lord- heart is transformed.
